The Database Club, Department of IT, I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad, organized an insightful workshop for the students of the MCA Programme on the contemporary topic, “From Database Developer to AI Application Developer: Building with GenAI, LLMs, RAG & Agentic AI”, on 10th September 2026
The session featured Mr. Ankur Jain, an alumnus of the MCA programme (2011) and Founder of TechSupper, as the resource person. Bringing his industry experience and practical insights to the classroom, Mr. Jain helped students understand how the role of a traditional database developer is evolving with the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence.
The session began with a simple but important idea: strong fundamentals still matter in the age of AI. Students explored how their knowledge of databases, SQL, data modelling, and information management can be extended to build intelligent and context-aware AI applications.
The workshop covered a wide range of emerging technologies, including Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Prompt Engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Vector Databases, Embeddings, and Agentic AI. Mr. Jain explained these concepts in an approachable way and highlighted how they are being used to develop smarter and more capable applications.
One of the key discussions focused on RAG, and how it allows AI applications to work with enterprise and domain-specific information to provide more relevant and grounded responses. Students were also introduced to AI Agents and how they can go beyond simply generating responses by reasoning, planning, using tools, and carrying out multi-step tasks.
A particularly valuable takeaway from the session was that AI does not make databases less important—in fact, it makes quality data, effective retrieval, good governance, and strong database skills even more valuable. Students could clearly see how their existing skills can become a stepping stone toward exciting new roles in the AI ecosystem.
The workshop also highlighted a possible career journey for students: Database Developer → Data-Driven Developer → GenAI Application Developer → Agentic AI Developer. This gave students a fresh perspective on how they can build on what they already know while preparing themselves for emerging opportunities in technology.
